Nice Dreams is a cannabis delivery app designed initially for the Oregon market after state wide legalization happened in 2016. I was approached to build the design and functionality of the app when the established rules came into effect to allow for to-your-door delivery in 2019.

Problem Statement

With the increasing legalization of cannabis in various regions, customers demand a smooth, safe, and convenient way to purchase cannabis products. However, existing platforms often struggle with:

  • Poor user navigation and product discovery
  • Complicated age and identity verification processes
  • Lack of real-time delivery tracking
  • Compliance and regulatory concerns

Our goal was to design an app that simplifies cannabis purchasing while ensuring legal compliance and maintaining a high standard of user experience.

We conducted interviews with 25 potential users, ranging from experienced cannabis consumers to first-time buyers. Key insights included:

  • Convenience is key: Users want a quick, hassle-free ordering process.
  • Trust & safety matter: First-time buyers need clear product information and secure payment methods.
  • Customization helps: Users appreciate personalized recommendations based on preferences and past orders.

Competitive Analysis

We analyzed leading cannabis delivery apps and e-commerce platforms to identify UX strengths and gaps. Findings included:

  • Simple and intuitive browsing increases purchase likelihood.
  • Apps with robust filtering options enhance product discovery.
